16 airports have reportedly started testing facial recognition scans as a part of their TSA Security procedure. So as you get ready to board your flight you may be asked you to hand over your ID, boarding pass and stand still while your face is scanned to make sure you're really the person your ID says you are. The goal of the testing is apparently to someday make it the only form of ID check -so basically your face will act as your ID. The overall hope is that it will improve safety and possibly cutdown on wait times, but one of the main concerns of using this technology is how they will store or use the face scans once they've done them. Although San Francisco has banned the use of this technology, you may be flying out of one of the cities that has already implemented its use and its good to know ahead of time in case you want to opt out, you should know that you can. Some of the airports that are reportedly testing the face scan technology include LAX, Dallas Fort-Worth International, Boston Logan International, Miami International, San Jose International and Phoenix Sky Harbor International.
