People Aren't Thrilled That J- Lo Was Part of Grammys' Motown Tribute

  • Even before Jennifer Lopez took the stage at Sunday's Grammy Awards, people were confused as to why a non-black performer was booked for such a performance. Smokey Robinson, who performed alongside J-Lo, told Variety , "Motown was for everybody. Everybody. Who's stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing anything for Motown?" A lot of folks, apparently. On Twitter, one user called J-Lo's performance "insulting," while several other users suggested a litany of African-American musicians who could have performed instead. For her part, J-Lo gushed to ET , "It's just a dream come true. Singing up there with Smokey Robinson, like, I gotta pinch myself. I grew up on all those songs and because my mom loved him so much she passed him on to us.” Smokey Robinson, who performed alongside J-Lo, defended her, saying, "Motown is for everybody. Who's stupid enough to protest Jennifer Lopez doing anything for Motown?" I have to agree with Smokey! Motown was for everyone!
