Between going viral on social media and catering to Valentine’s Day candy sales, an Ohio candy store seeing some bounce-back after enduring pandemic hardships.
Last month, a Facebook post praising b.a. Sweetie Candy Company garnered thousands of reactions and attracted droves of customers — even some from out-of-state — to the Cleveland candy store, the largest store in North America.
As of Friday morning (February 12), the post has garnered nearly 70,000 shares.
It’s also driven nearly 9,000 comments and more than 2,000 likes.
"That Saturday it was like, 'Oh my goodness get some help in here!' we had lines everywhere," owner Tom Scheiman recalled to News 5 Cleveland. "It was absolutely phenomenal!"
Now, with Valentine’s Day around the corner, sales keep surging.
The National Confectioners Association shows that the entire chocolate and candy industry — including b.a. Sweetie’s — is surviving the pandemic as people seek “joy” amid the hard times, according to News 5 Cleveland.
Nearly 90% of people plan to give chocolate or candy as Valentine’s Day gifts, according to the National Confectioners Association.
The “long-running, candy superstore” offers more than 4,500 candies and offers a soda shop. It’s hailed as the largest candy store in North America, in business for nearly seven decades, according to b.a. Sweeties.
The shop is located at 6770 Brookpark Rd. in Cleveland.
