Dramatic Video Captures Officer Rescuing Toddler From House Fire

A Missouri police officer is being hailed as a hero after he saved a three-year-old girl and her grandmother from the basement of their burning home. The Hazelwood Police Department said that Officer Rodriguez was the first person on the scene of the house fire and heard screams coming from a basement window.

He ran over and kicked the window out and saw the young girl and her grandmother trapped by the flames. He reached inside and pulled the young girl to safety.

"When I knew someone was right there, to help me get her out there, my whole mood changed," the 3-year-old's grandmother Latonya Hart told KMOV. "I was like, thank you, Lord, thank you God somebody is here."

With the young girl safe in the care of other officers, Rodriguez returned to the window so he could get Hart out of the basement. With the help of one of her neighbor's, Rodriguez was able to pull her out of the burning home.

Paramedics checked on the young girl, Hart, and the officer and none of them required medical treatment.

Hart's home was completely destroyed in the fire and has been condemned. A GoFundMe page was created to help raise money for the family, who lost everything in the fire.
