On Monday, Major League Baseball posted a tweet about Jackie Robinson alongside a Budweiser beer commercial--then swiftly deleted it after fans clapped back. The tweet included the caption, "Rise up. #ThisBeersForJackie." The post was intended to commemorate the anniversary of Robinson's MLB debut for the Dodgers in 1947, but many people felt it was a tone-deaf attempt to promote beer sales. Deadspin reports that people were especially mad because, according to Robinson's widow, the baseball legend didn't even drink beer. The commercial paired with the post was released in late March and is part of a campaign celebrating what would have been Robinson's 100th birthday. From every bottle of Budweiser sold during the 2019 season, 42 cents will be donated to the Jackie Robinson Foundation to help fund the opening of the Jackie Robinson Museum in New York City this year.
