Letter From Barack Obama Read at Nipsey Hussle's Public Memorial Service

Roughly 21,000 fans packed L.A.'s Staples Center on Thursday for Nipsey Hussle's public memorial service, which included a letter sent by former President Barack Obama. "I’d never met Nipsey Hussle, but I’d heard some of his music through my daughters, and after his passing, I had the chance to learn more about his transformation and his community work," Obama wrote in a letter dated Thursday that was read at the service by media maven Karen Civil. Obama added that Hussle's work empowering L.A.'s Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up "set an example for young people to follow [and] is a legacy worthy of celebration. I hope his memory inspires more work in Crenshaw and communities like it." Vulture notes that the service also featured Marsha Ambrosius singing a powerful cover of Mariah Cover’s “Fly Like a Bird.”
