Common says in a new interview with TMZ that the black community failed the alleged victims of R. Kelly for years. “We failed as a community because we knew that these things was happening, and instead of trying to be like, “Yo, let’s go try to resolve this situation and free these young ladies and stop this thing that’s going on,’” the Oscar winner tells a cameraman. “We just was like, ‘Man, we rocking to the music.’ And I’m guilty of that, myself, too. Because I didn’t stop and be like, ‘No.’ And speak up against it.” Common goes on to say that Kelly is “a human being” and “has his issues,” but that he “can’t condone” the behavior he’s been accused of.
