Swimmer Dead After Shark Attack Off Coast of Massachusetts

The state of Massachusetts experienced its first shark fatality in more than 80 years this past weekend when a male swimmer in his twenties died from an attack off the coast of Cape Cod. "Around noontime today, a male swimmer at Newcomb Hollow Beach was bitten by what is believed to be a shark," the Wellfleet Police Department wrote Saturday on Facebook. "The male victim, mid-twenties, was pulled from the water and provided emergency first aid to include CPR. The male victim was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Wellfleet Fire Department, were he passed from the injuries." Local fisherman Joe Booth, who saw the attack from the shore, also told the AP, "I was that guy on the beach screaming, ‘Shark, shark!’ It was like right out of that movie Jaws. This has turned into Amity Island real quick out here.”
